The Limpopo Provincial Organized Crime Unit made a significant arrest on Tuesday, 16 April 2024, apprehending a 43-year-old Ethiopian national male suspect for dealing in illicit drugs at a complex in Jane Furse.
Acting on a tip-off, the Provincial Organised Crime Unit swiftly acted on the information provided, leading them to the suspect, who is the owner of a store in town. The suspect was taken into custody at his place of residence.
Upon searching the suspect’s residence in the Morena complex, law enforcement officers discovered 74 sachets of heroin and a large plastic bag containing a brownish powder substance believed to be heroin hidden in a wardrobe.
The estimated street value of the drugs seized amounts to a staggering one million rand (R1000 000-00), with an additional cash amount of R165,400 seized.
In addition to the narcotics, counterfeit products were also uncovered during the search, further complicating the case.
The suspect was promptly arrested and charged with dealing in illicit drugs, a serious offense under South African law.
Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, the Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, commended the team for their swift response, emphasizing the role of drugs in fueling criminal activities.
The suspect is scheduled to appear before the Nebo Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 18 April 2024, to face charges related to drug trafficking. Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
